You know, when you switch time zones there is an effect. I am experiencing it today, almost more than yesterday.
I keep thinking of how generous my German friends are. Today we read about generosity in our school and I was deeply moved by how much our friends did for us, how they demonstrated their love to us on many levels!
We were treated to beautiful dinner parties every night, always with some especially unique delicacy.
One night we had Raclette, something similar to Fondue, with cheese broiling over meat or vegetables. Another night it was homemade Lasagne. We enjoyed the most delicious dumplings, along with Schweinebraten. Wurst and Sauerkraut, red cabbage---homemade recipes, and even Wild Boar with fresh potatoes! We ate Persian dishes, Turkish entrees, and Afghan delectables.
One of our hostesses made us a rampion salad---you know, the leaf associated with Rapunzel? Our hostess grew up in the city of Snow White, and her husband came from the city of the Seven Dwarves! It was a real fairy tale experience!
Every morning our hosts and hostesses ran to the Backerie and bought fresh rolls---of many varieties---to eat with homemade jams, sausage, and creamy cheeses.
Did I mention the desserts?
Really, it was lavish to the extreme, and we loved every minute.
Our friends were quick to help us see their various neighborhoods and regions, whether it was castles, museums, churches, mosques, or ruins. We drove close to 3,000 kilometers the entire 2 weeks!
Everywhere in the town centers the Christmas Markets were being built, and on the last weekend we were able to taste the treats of the one in Wiesbaden. So many sensory delights! It was fair-like and quaint, festive and real altogether.
Cherie got to try "Roasted Chestnuts," and she admired the carousel ride.
Fun, fun days!
