State Fair

Because my husband put in time on two different shifts for his company's booth at the fair the rest of us were able to go along with him and purchase additional fair entrance tickets at a discount.

We took advantage of this!

Last night around 9 we got home from our THIRD trip to the fair in 11 days!

And it was wonderful.

A week ago, the third day of the fair, the grass was green and the barns fresh. We admired the creative arts and homemade goods, scrumptious looking! We tried the deep-fried pickle. Yum!

On Saturday we got there early to watch our young friend from up north give her blue ribbon 4-H demonstration of making a pie. She amazed the audience and the judge! (She also got the highest place for her 4-H display on Wild Rice. (Purple!) In seed art she bagged 5th overall in her age group, open class. She is a talented young lady.

Yesterday Ed and I saw barrel racing, ate deep-fried apple pie with cinnamon ice cream and rode the "sky glider."

Ed took in a couple other rides too.

We tried to win a Ford, but got a couple of red shopping bags instead.

We toured the "Scamp" display twice. (My kids know that I have had a decades-long dream of getting a Scamp for stormy camping excursions.) Scamps are the one item I have ebay notify me for. So far they are just too popular for our budget!

I met up with my brother and his family, here from the east coast to take in the fair.

We saw Michael Barone at the mic of MPR, listening to the Copper Street Brass Quintet. Ed and I enjoyed the short concert. Beautiful sound!

And we greeted Garrison Keillor as he headed into the horse barn. We were just leaving.

These are our Minnesota notables, and what a great day to share with a couple hundred thousand other Minnesotans.

And yesterday the grass was completely trampled. A week of intense wear.

That's what the fair is all about. Late summer ambiance and fellowship, a celebration of our wholesome Midwestern lifestyle!
