The grass is dead, the leaves are starting to fall.
The fish in the pond have all survived the summer, plus had a baby. No dead fish to bury under the rose bushes.
The bats had a baby too. We named it Tidbat. It joined Barney, Thelma, and Batty. Now they swoop over our heads while we enjoy the dying embers of our backyard fire.
One zucchini graced our table this summer. One.
The pumpkins have bloomed every morning with new yellow blossoms, but again, little fruit to mention.
All the new rose bushes are "toast."
We are beginning to enjoy a harvest of tomatoes, and the Marigolds and Balloon flowers seem to think all is well in the world.
I've had to water the Chrysanthemums excessively to keep them blooming and healthy for fall color.
The Peony foliage looks pretty bad. Must water more.
The Golden Delicious apple tree has a wonderful crop, big juicy and relatively pest-free fruit this year!
(Our Chokecherries did poorly, as I mentioned in a previous post.)
Our two small pie cherry trees are surviving, and even bore about a dozen good sized cherries. Not enough for a pie, but we're getting there.
Some type of sand pest has attacked my feet while I sit by the fire. Must wear foot gear from now on. Could be like Chiggers (whatever they are!) It's been miserable.
The pets are fine. Blackberry suffers with her ear issues, but generally remains good natured.
My husband was able to extract about 50 lbs. of honey from one of the hives yesterday. He Labored to get it done on his work holiday!
It is absolutely delicious, gorgeously colored, and perfectly fragrant. I have been cleaning up honey from various surfaces all day today.
And we did math.
School is full swing.
Time for work.
